The Grade 6, 7, and 8 students and teachers spent two nights at Camp Otterdale in September. The students enjoyed a traditional camp experience that included campfire songs and storytelling, early morning polar bear swims for those brave enough to take a dip in the cold lake, and classic games such as capture the flag in the woods. The purpose of this experience was to encourage new and former students to get to know each other and develop friendships. The students participated in communication, teambuilding, and trust activities. They also learned some orienteering skills and took on responsibilities such as setting up the dining room for lunch and supper. Each day began at 7 am, with lights out at 10 pm. The students returned to Fern Hill with new friendships and valuable skills that will help them achieve great things this schoolyear. The next trip for the Grade 7 and 8 students will take place mid-May when they will explore Ontario’s capital city, Toronto!
