Fern Hill School has a strong commitment to community engagement. Through community outings, we help foster important character traits in our students, such as respect, social responsibility, and positive communication.
Every year, a group of Fern Hill students visits one of the local retirement residences on Halloween day. This year, the Grade 3 class prepared a special program that included a skit, poems, Halloween songs, and jokes. The students worked very hard to learn their lines and the songs. After singing the songs, reciting poems, and telling jokes, the students gave out Halloween crafts they made for the occasion. The seniors loved the crafts. After having a cupcake and juice, the students introduced themselves to the residents and showed them their Halloween costumes. One resident said the Grade 3 students made her day and this was the best Halloween she has had in a long time. I think it is safe to say everyone had a ‘howling’ good time.
Fern Hill students leave our school with a strong appreciation for the community around them and strong sense of social responsibility.
