This year, the House Leaders are once again organizing the Snowsuit Fund Drive, continuing Fern Hill School’s long tradition of supporting the Ottawa Snowsuit Fund. The drive began on Monday, October 27, and will run until Thursday, November 13.
For the past 18 years, Fern Hill has helped provide warm winter wear for children in need across Ottawa. Each year, the Snowsuit Fund distributes over 16,000 snowsuits to local children, ensuring they can enjoy the winter season safely and comfortably. A donation of $50 buys a brand-new snowsuit for a child.
Just like in previous years, we’ll be using the ticket method to encourage donations. On Tuesday, December 16, students will have the chance to accessorize their school uniforms with festive holiday items. For every $10 donation, students will receive one ticket, which can be exchanged for a holiday accessory.
Donations can be made by cash or cheque (payable to The Snowsuit Fund, not Fern Hill School). Contributions may be given to Mrs. Cashion in the FHS office or to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Over the past eight years, Fern Hill has raised an impressive $22,255 for this important cause. This year, our goal is to raise $3,000. If we reach our target, each class will enjoy a movie day to celebrate their achievement!
The House Leaders are also encouraging students to bring in gently used winter items—such as gloves, toques, scarves, coats, snow pants, and boots—to support local families. Items can be placed in the decorated House Boxes located in the upper hallway. All donations will be counted at the end of the three-week drive, and House Points will be awarded based on contributions.
