Our Grade 5 students worked alongside their teacher and parent volunteers to prepare over 60 brown bag lunches for Highjinx, a social service hub in downtown Ottawa. Each lunch included a sandwich, cookie, fruit, and a juice box, thoughtfully prepared to support members of the community in need.

This initiative began three years ago when these same students, then in Grade 3, developed the brown bag lunch idea together with their teacher as a way to give back. What started as a small classroom project has grown into a meaningful school-wide tradition. Today, students in all grades at Fern Hill School participate in preparing brown bag lunches for Highjinx each month.

This ongoing partnership reflects our school’s commitment to empathy, leadership, and active citizenship. Way to go Fern Hill!
